Pacific Standard is a bimonthly print magazine and daily website—at PSmag.com—of cutting-edge ideas that aims to put social and behavioral science research into lively, intelligent conversation with current news and the national debate. Published by the Miller-McCune Center for Research, Media, and Public Policy in Santa Barbara, California, Pacific Standard showcases some of the most intriguing research happening today. The key notion we address is: Why do people do what they do—and what is being done about it?
We’re looking for story ideas about innovative research and researchers, across the social and behavioral sciences. But we also want stories on efforts to explain or predict human behavior, attempts to influence that behavior, and informed takes on cultural or social trends and events that shed light on how we tick. In short, we want great journalism about political and social matters of national interest.
Pacific Standard and PSmag.com articles should be sophisticated and engaging, they should shed light on the new or the innovative, and they should wear their erudition lightly. Writers receive careful, thoughtful, collegial, and stringent editing aimed at making sophisticated ideas and research accessible to an educated public.
